Is it true that LinkedIn has become Tinder with a blazer?
Apparently, “Open to DMs” on someone’s profile photo isn’t about networking.
It’s a secret LinkedIn dating language. As in, actual dating messages.
I found this out because I’m nosy.
I spotted it on a connection’s photo, asked them what it meant, and now I can’t unsee it.
Here’s the thing — I’m dipping my toe back into the dating pool, and the idea of internet dating terrifies me. The awkward coffees. The endless texting that goes on and on and on and then… nowhere. It’s like messaging prison.
But if Bridget Jones can get back out there in her fifties, surely someone out there will like me very much, just as I am — questionable profile photo and all.
So part of me thinks… LinkedIn romance is maybe not the worst idea? You can check someone’s employment history before you commit to the latte.
Due diligence meets dating. Jane Austen would approve.
But then again, isn’t it like turning up to a board meeting with a massive bunch of flowers? Technically possible, but slightly ick?
And let’s be honest about what’s actually in my DMs right now: image cut-out services, maximum sales offers, and most recently, SEO help in German. For my website …I feel seen and heard, thanks.
So while I’m over here chatting about photography and business skills, apparently, other people are finding love on LinkedIn.
Actual love.
Between the cold pitches and the “I’d love to pick your brain” messages.
Maybe I’m missing something.
Maybe my profile gives off emotionally unavailable energy.
Maybe I need to update my photo with a banner that says “Open to Opportunities… and Dinner” (It just sounds a little desperate, don’t you think?)
What about you? Has anyone slid into your LinkedIn DMs with something that definitely wasn’t about work? Do you know anyone who has found love on LinkedIn? (Asking for a friend obs)

‘Open to DMs’ means something different on LinkedIn. Is the world’s biggest professional network becoming the newest dating app?
